Head Coach/Director, Chris Akers Prior to starting the Columbus Juniors VBC in 2006, Coach Akers spent four years as Head Coach at Columbus High School. He led the Lady Blue Devils to three Area Championships, two Elite Eight, a Final Four appearance in the State playoffs. In 4 years the program produced 17 All Bi-City players, 3 Area Players of the Year, and a All-State top 24 Seniors Award. Coach Akers is a USA Volleyball certified instructor with 15 years of playing experience.


 

Head Coach/Technical Director, Liz Underwood Current Lee Scott Academy Head Coach. Underwood served as Auburn Head Coach from 1992 until 1997 and compiled a 99-81 record for a .550 winning percentage. During her time on the Plains the Tigers won their only SEC West Championship (1996) to date. While at Auburn, she coached three All-SEC First Team and six second-team selections as well as two SEC Freshmen of the Year. Prior to her head coaching stay at Auburn, Underwood had spent time at Louisville as the top assistant (1988-92) and at Colorado as the graduate assistant (1987-88).



Rayelle Spencer - Rayelle is a 2008 graduate with a B.S in Business Management from Albany State University, where she played for the 8 time SIAC Champion Lady Rams volleyball team as a outside hitter. While attending Albany State she introduced volleyball to young girls in the National Youth Sports Program (NYSP) for 2 years. She spent time volunteering with Sherwood Christian Academy, Turner Job Corp and Lee County High School volleyball team. Also, while attending Albany State she helped facilitate training sessions with Atlanta Boom Director's Del and Arleen Hughes. Prior to attending Albany State University she played for Martin Luther King High School and Atlanta Boom Volleyball club in 2003 where she earned a full 4 year scholarship to Albany State. Born and raised in Trinidad & Tobago, Rayelle moved to the United States in 1997. She gained experience playing all three positions (OH, MB and setter) which helps her understand the challenges at each of these specialties. With over 12 years of experience her philosophy is that: Good things happen to those who work hard.




Corey Shaffer - Coach Shaffer is a GHSA certified Community Coach, and he currently serves as the Jordan High School Volleyball Head Coach.  Coach Shaffer taught at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, ESS 101 (Beginning Volleyball) & ESS 201 (Intermediate Volleyball) for the 1998-1999 school year, after forming the College Men’s and Women’s Club Volleyball programs (1998).  Coach Shaffer developed and coached the Women’s Club team, and simultaneously played as Captain for the Men’s Club program.  Coach Shaffer has a passion for volleyball, and his natural talent and instincts on the court have been developing for the past 15 years.  Coach Shaffer studied and trained with the Penn State volleyball team and coaches for 3 years, and he has strong Offensive expertise with having focused most of his playing years as a Setter and Outside Hitter.  On a personal note, Coach Shaffer spent 7 years in the 75th Ranger Regiment (2001-2008), here on Fort Benning, and he brings the discipline of Military conditioning, as well as the Exercise Science expertise passed on from the great Strength coaches who have passed through the Ranger Regiment.  While here at Fort Benning, Coach Shaffer has coached 3 consecutive Fort Benning Army Volleyball teams to Undefeated seasons and Champion tournament victories (2007-2009)




Kelly Carr -Kelly recently moved to Auburn Alabama from Birmingham Alabama, where she coached club volleyball for 3 years with Alabama Juniors and Oak Mountain High School 9th grade volleyball. She is a USAV IMPACT certified coach. Kelly played Libero, DS and setter for Northern Garrett High School in Accident Maryland.  Kelly received the outstanding setter award in her senior year. She attended West Virginia Wesleyan her freshman year. She then transferred to JMU after deciding to pursue a major in history. She was very active in intramurals throughout her time there. Kelly graduated from James Madison University in Virginia with a Bachelors of History and went on to complete post-graduate studies in a paralegal specialty. She has quickly become active in the Auburn community by joining AORTA Member- Auburn - Opelika Running Group, working as a Diplomat with the Auburn Chamber of Commerce, and Leadership Lee County.
